- I have no problem using the RR command to gain back the HD space, but can't
- get it to take any arguements. I know that it is suppose to be able to take a
- range of the actual subboard numbers. I'm probably just using the wrong
- syntax or something. I would really like to set it up in the Cnet events. It
- is a big hassle to enter each sub manually and type RR every couple of days.

-
- As far as I know (which isn't very far sometimes), RR does NOT take any args
- when run online from the sub prompt.
-
- It DOES take standard "x,y-z ranging" args when run as an event.
-
- Do you have the latest "RR_Subs.LHA" tool?
-
- Let it know which days of the month (1-31), you wish to repair which subs, and
- it handles everything for you. (You only have to set-up 1 event, NOT 31.)

-
- This works for me:
- RunCnetC Pfiles:Maintenance/Repair_sub '2-500
-
-
- Obviously, you'll want to substitute the # of subboards in the range I have in
- my example to the physical subboards you want it to go over in your
- configuration.
-
- ALSO be sure you have the ['] (single quote) in your script! Dunno why, but
- it won't work for me without it. I haven't tried it (didn't think of it until
- after I got 3.04), but I bet it will work for people still running 2.63 too.
-
- Good luck!

-
- You have to use the actual numbers, not the sub-board list numbers. The proper
- syntax for it as an event is;
-
- Pfiles:maintenance/repair_sub #-# RAM
-
- CnetC
-
- You have to watch out for the commas. You can only put 10 in one argument. So
- if your subboard list is really fragmented (like mine) you may have to set up
- multiple events to take care of all of them.

-
- The range of subboards must be using the Unique Suboard Number(the one printed
- on the top line of the EL VDE screen), and NOT the Base number, as it appears
- in your LIST command. Could THIS be your problem?

- Hm, here it DOES NOT take any arguments when run as an event. It always starts
- a process where the subboards3 file is repaired.

- I have discovered that if you do a REPAIR_SUB with a range starting at '0' it
- will go through the SUBBOARDS3 repair process, but if you don't include 0 it
- will do the actual repair of subs. From example, REPAIR_SUB 0-100 would
- repair your SUBBOARDS3 file, but REPAIR_SUB 1-100 would repair subs 1-100.
-
- Maybe it's a bug? But at any rate that's what I do to get it to work..

-
- It uses "physical sub #s". The "list #s" only appear in their order based on
- what access, flags, times, computers, each user has. List item #17 might be
- #16 to others, and #18 to some. File-requ "RR_SUB".
-
- RR_CHECK.LHA is even better yet. It actually checks how badly fragmented each
- subs data-files are and can be set-up to only repair those with more than x
- number of holes in them. Skipping 100s of other subs that don't really have
- any fragmentation in them anyway.
-
- The time savings are dramatic. For example, lets say you have 300 subs. 10
- are badly fragmented, 290 of them are not. If each repair-job takes 2 mins
- per sub, it would take 10 HOURS to repair them all. RR_CHECK would just
- repair the 10 subs (the only ones that really need it anyway) in 20 mins.
- (And RR_CHECK would take about 1 min to check (and skip) that the other subs
- don't need de-fragmenting.)
-
- 10 HOURS vs 21 MINS!
-
- File-requ RR_CHECK from 1:2410/207.
- (At 14.4k it is well worth a small 7K D/L.)
